Wing rigging
05. Oct 2008 at 17:07

Hi there - as the forum worked a treat for me on the dunkelgelb I thought I would try again. I am building a WW1 kit and have no idea about rigging. It says use black thread in the kit, but I cannot believe that is the best method.

So all you experts - what is the easiest  way to do this, what materials do you need and do you have to pre drill holes.

Thanks guys
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

That's a big can of worms you've opened with this question, almost as big as the Panzer Yellow  Grin

There are loads of options and it will sort of depend on what works for you.

1)  Use stretched strue, can be awkward to measure the lenghts required but is cheap.
2)  Use steel wire instead, roll it out on a flat board to iron out any kinks.  I have used this method quite successfully myself.  Glue with superglue or white glue (PVA) or Krystal Klear
3)  Use invisible thread (also known as nylon thread or invislble mending thread) of a suitably small diameter, this will require pre drilled holes.
4)  Use lycra thread instead of the invisible thread, also requires holes.  I've been trying this on a Pfalz D.III with some success.  Is slightly more resilient to handling by the modeller once complete.

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/
under the Tools N Tips section has some articles on rigging which may be worth looking at.

Good luck

Peter
