Bloody Dunkelgelb
21. Sep 2008 at 20:45

Ok, an old subject, but I have just painted the body of my Stug III G using Vallejo Modelair Dark Yellow. However it has most definately come out too green. Come on you tread head experts, does anyone know the best match  for dunkelgelb. The only thing is it must be acrylic as I cannot use enamels.

Cheers
Ralph

Thanks for the help Danny - I bought a couple of paints in my lunchtime at Modelzone in Holborn (handy working in the city), and the best match I can see is Tamiya XF60. I looked at all the Vallejo and Revel colours aswell, but the Tamiya colour still looked the best. So I will give that a go this week.

Of course as soon as I do paint it, someone is going to say "That's not the correct shade of dunkelgelb".

But I have a cunning plan. Reading an article on the Internet, I found that dunkelgelb varied a lot considering how much the paint needed to be thinned, or how much they had in the factory. It was apparently mixed with all sorts of junk to make it go further, and this affected the colour. So if anyone says anything, I'll just say it had a lot of dodgy solvents in it!!!!!

Hi Ralph

I'd also vote for the Tamiya XF-60, that's what I use.  As you've no doubt found out the paint was supplied in a paste form for the troops to mix with whatever they had to hand for camouflage effects on their tanks so the colour will vary according to dilution, the method of application and the liquid used to dilute it.
